Freedom of Speech on NTP 14.10.2010

This week on NTP, Nick and I (Steph) take a look at freedom of speech and human rights in Australia. With the advent of the new media, there's no longer an easy way to prevent people from saying what they want to say. So why are more alternative medias more important nowadays, and what exactly do they do differently from the mainstream media? In regards to public figures receiving backlash from saying something inappropriate, would there be such an uproar if these people weren't so well-known? And lastly, who decides what is and isn't okay to say? To try and tackle some of these questions we'll have a chat with Drago Heler, an Ethics Lecturer at Charles Sturt University, Senthoran Raj from the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Aaron Roden, a Journalist from the Green Left Weekly and some students about their take on freedom of speech and human rights in Australia.
